DRY TOP Heavy Duty Tarp

You may be thinking: why would I need a tarp when I’m going outside? And to be fair, it does seem kind of backwards to have a tarp to keep an area clean when you are going out camping. However, I can recall the exact experience when I thought to myself that I need a tarp. I was out on a camping trip; it was off to a great start. However, an unexpected forecast of heavy rain came overnight, and when I woke up the next morning, the front area of my tent was muddy and practically flooded. Not to mention that my shoes had also been sunk into the mud, and caked in it because of the rainfall.

I quickly cleaned up my shoes, and brought out my second pair of shoes (always handy to have a second pair in cases like this). When I came over to the camping chairs and table set up next to the fire pit, they too were a muddy mess. The chairs and table weren’t something I could necessarily prevent, as they were left out in the open. But the front of my tent could’ve been fine if I had had the foresight to bring a tarp and cover the area underneath my tent. No doubt my tent would’ve been wet from the heavy rainfall, but at least it wouldn’t have been muddy and dirty. It was genuinely a pain to clean up the tent, as the mud had dried and caked up the bottom of the tent, where a simple rinse of a tarp could’ve saved me a lot of time. Since then, I haven’t gone out without bringing along a tarp for my tent.

And you could save yourself potential trouble by having a tarp. It may not seem like much, but a tarp is handy to have especially if you are going to a wet area. I know I’ve said this a lot, but a tarp is a must-have addition to your camping supplies.

When purchasing a tarp it is important to note the ‘cut size’ vs. the ‘finished size’. Our DRY TOP brand Medium Duty and Heavy Duty tarps are cut larger so they finish to a full size. The industry standard is that tarps are cut and then finish up to 1’ shorter on each side after closing seams and hemming. For example, an industry standard 5’x7’ is rough cut at that size and finishes approximately 6” shorter. That’s almost 20% shorter than the listed size after it’s finished! Make sure your tarp is a DRY TOP tarp for a Full Finished Size.

Customers have trusted the DRY TOP brand for over 30 years.

DRY TOP Heavy Duty tarps are a dual laminated, 14×14 weave, polyethylene woven tarp. These tarps have plastic capped reinforced corners, rope reinforced hems, rust-resistant aluminum grommets on corners and approximately every 18”, and are a full finished size (+/- 3%). Available in 24 sizes and either white or silver/brown reversible colors.
